Rebuilding from Hurricane Ida
Hello my name is Arika , I'm a single mother of two small children. My son is ten years old and is Autistic, my daughter is only 19 months old and we've currently been displaced from our home in South Bound Brook, NJ due to the devastating Tropical Storm Ida that flooded out our entire apartment complex. My apartment is destroyed with mud and as of yesterday there was still about 8 feet of water in the basement under my apartment. I lost both my children's beds, a refrigerator full of food, our couch and several other items. This is heart-aching and I have no idea when FEMA will render aid and shelter to families effected by this storm.
My son was set to begin school in Hillsborough, NJ on September 8th at ARIS for their special needs program. Now that we're displaced transportation won't be able to pick my son up to transportation him to school as we're currently residing at a hotel in North Brunswick, NJ.
As many people know hotels, food, gas and trying to rebuild your life is extremely devastating and costs a lot of money. I'm looking to relocate to a hotel closer to South Bound Brook but all hotels in the Somerset area have inflated their prices due to many people needing a place to stay after the storm. So any assistance you can provide to me and my children would be nothing but a blessing.
This situation brought my son to tears when the rescue squad came around to hand out sandwich to my apartment complex. My son has minimal verbal expression and was heartbroken to see mud in our home and him knowing we won't be able to return home anything soon just broke his heart and mine alike.
I know with God and support me and my family will make it through this devastating time. All donations are greatly appreciated.
