Troy Neal’s Squamous Cell Carcinoma fund
For those that do not know Troy, he is a son, husband, father to 3 amazing kids, grandfather to 1.5 (our daughter is due any moment), brother, uncle and a friend to many. He is a great neighbor and would help anyone that needs it.
Troy was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma on his tongue in June 2020. We found out it is Stage 4 and has metastasized to all the lymph nodes in his neck and the back of his throat on July 30th.
Troy will have surgery in September (we are hoping this will be moved up) to remove 55-60% of his tongue (partial glossectomy). Full neck dissection on both sides to remove all lymph nodes and all of his teeth will be removed. He will follow up surgery with radiation therapy, chemo therapy, speech therapy as he will need to learn how to eat, speak and swallow again, he will also need dental work.
Our insurance plan is a MEC plan and will cover up to $1000.00 maybe.
When Troy retired from the Tampa Police Department after 26 years of service we elected not to carry the city insurance as it was so expensive. The city has since changed terms and if you didn’t get it at retirement you can no longer get it.
We are unsure of what the total cost of all of this will be but we know it will be out of reach of what we can afford out of pocket. If we had to guess from what we have read and the bills already received $250,000-$500,000.
We have been turned down for assistance through the hospital as this time but we will appeal.
Jennifer will most likely have to take a leave of absence from work as she will be Troy’s primary care giver, taking him to all of his appointments, care after surgery and during treatments.
Troy hates asking for help, as we are usually the one giving the assistance and we are always happy to do it but he is in the fight for his life and our family needs help. Without treatment the doctor told him he has a year to two years max to live as it is very aggressive.
If you can’t give, share, if you can’t share, keep him/us in your thoughts and prayers.
We are truly blessed with amazing friends andfamily and we know we will come out strongerbecause of this journey.
Thank you family and friends for your continued love and support.
