We are Sangha Taiko - a Japanese drumming group that performs throughout the Treasure Valley and surrounding communities. We are volunteers who devote our time to learning and performing Japanese music throughout the area in an attempt to bring unity through cultural and musical exposure. We are happy to be partnered with the Idaho-Oregon Buddhist Temple, which allows us to store our drums and practice in their temple basement.
This year marks the temple's 75th anniversary. Devastatingly, an electrical fire broke out in the temple basement last Friday (7/8/22), destroying tens of thousands of dollars worth of equipment. Luckily, the fire was controlled before reaching the second floor where the temple altar is located, but it was not wholly unscathed from smoke and water damage.
We are a small community that needs the support of our friends right now. The temple's temporary closure and the instruments lost will be a difficult setback. However, with your support, we can rebuild more quickly and create hope and unity.
Donations will be used to replace the 13 Japanese drums lost, valued at, on average, $2,000 a piece. In addition, funds will be used to replace ancillary instruments such as flutes, bells, gongs, shakers, etc., that were destroyed. Any excess donations will be given directly to the temple for use in cleaning and rebuilding that which was damaged.
We feel your support and appreciate any donation amount or good vibe you send our way.
