Our dear friend and a member of the sober community needs our help!! Olivia is a 12 year old girl who has gone through more than most adults!! And guess what she’s always smiling, thanking everyone and praising god for the life she has!! Kari her mother , is in recovery, continuing to stay sober and showing what true recovery is!!! She is also a mother to her other daughter, Adison 9 years old, who she is trying to support through all of this.
Kari is simply trying to keep her bills paid and have a few special items and experiences for her children. She has taken an unpaid personal leave of absence (hasn’t been at her job a year yet to apply for FMLA) from work as she is truly showing up for every appointment every treatment and she needs more support!!!
Olivia was first diagnosed with High Risk Neuroblastoma Cancer on December 23, 2016 at the age of 5:
* surgeries
* chemo
* antibody treatments
* radiation
* stem cell transplants
ALMOST made it 2 years “CANCER FREE,” and then BOOM the cancer came back for a 2nd time April 2019:
* more surgeries
* chemo
* antibody treatments
* radiation
ALMOST made it 2 years “CANCER FREE,” and then BOOM the cancer came back for a 3rd time October 2022:
* more surgeries
* chemo
* antibody treatments
Olivia had her routine scans on Monday July 24, 2023 and a spot of concern was found on her PET scan; an MRI was scheduled for Tuesday July 25, 2023 to confirm what that spot was. Wednesday July 26, 2023 they heard the news no parent should EVER have to hear and that was the spot they had saw on the PET/MRI scan was indeed cancer.
So for now Olivia’s going to stop the chemo/antibody treatments and go straight to radiation. We’re all waiting for the phone call from her doctor with details; such as where will the she’ll go for radiation treatments…Abbott or Mayo down in Rochester and unsure of how many treatments she’ll be getting.
Thinking after her radiation treatments they’ll do another round of scans. Then pick back up where Olivia left off with her chemo/antibody treatments.
It’s just NOT fair Olivia is now 12 years old and has been doing this over half of her life!
