URGENT HELP NEEDED!
Emergency Appeal!
Background:
Garston Urban Village Hall is situated in one of the most deprived areas of Liverpool, and offers a vital resource for the community.
We are a charity based community centre and offer activities for all ages, a community café, childcare, free computer classes, dancing, kickboxing, drama, indoor and outdoor bowling, and football classes to name a few!
Garston Urban Village Hall also has a massive impact on tackling isolation in the area, where there are many people living in poverty, and gives a huge amount of people valuable work experience; assisting and supporting them into employment.
The Emergency!:
Historically, the Village Hall has been registered for VAT. Even though it is a charity and therefore exempt, we have been told we must remain registered until 2018. There is a huge VAT bill which the hall has been striving to pay for the last few years, but can’t gain enough income to run the hall as well as clear the debt. This is currently being dealt with in court, and we have been advised that HMRC will move towards closure of the hall unless we can raise £30,000 by March 2016. Yep, that’s right - £30,000 BY MARCH 2016!
We have made a start, and have managed to secure a few large donations amounting to £5250, however we have a long way to go.
Places like Garston Urban Village Hall are vital in these difficult times. We have assisted people who have been homeless, been suicidal, all of whom had nowhere else to turn. There are very few paid staff in the Hall, and the place runs due to a fantastic team of volunteers. All funds available have been put towards trying to pay HMRC and the bills just to keep the place going.
The Hall is completely self-funded and receives no financial support from the Council. We just manage to remain open due to charging for hire of facilities.
Garston Urban Village Hall is a lifeline for so many in the area – we can’t stress how damaging it would be to Garston Under the Bridge if we were to close.
Please please help by donating what you can to this hugely important local cause. All donations would be hugely appreciated and acknowledged. Thank you.
