To read more about Milo and PDA visit Save Milo
Milo has been diagnosed with a PDA which is an extra blood vessel on the heart. This normally disappears at birth but in some dogs it stays and causes issues. Most untreated dogs develop heart failure and die before one year of age. In Milo, this has caused an abnormal enlargement of the left side of his heart. He needs the surgery to survive.
Milo is a sweet and calm 2-year-old Dachshund/Yorkshire terrier mix. We adopted him 3 months ago and his heart issues were not discovered at the time of adoption. We have reached out to the rescue for financial help but they are unable to help.
Milo is insured through Pets Best. Unfortunately, they deem his condition pre-existing so it will not be covered by insurance. The cost for Milo's surgery is expected to be between $8,000 - $11,000 and we have already spent almost $3000 in diagnostic treatments and medicines.
We have two young children who love Milo. He is our first family dog and we are heartbroken by the fact that he is already in danger of leaving us.
We appreciate any help we can get to make sure Milo can get the care he needs so he can live a long and happy life with us.
