Love for Layla

My name is Stephanie and I am organizing this fundraiser on behalf of one of my best friends, Rena Donaldson. Rena and her family have been left devastated after finding out their beautiful two-year-old daughter Layla has been diagnosed with cancer. This fundraiser is to raise money to cover medical expenses, living expenses and to help give Layla the best life possible. Rena lives in Taiwan with her husband David, Layla and her newborn son Leon who was born at the beginning of April. Due to current restrictions, David is the only parent allowed to be with Layla in the hospital. Additionally, with Rena having a newborn son she is at home with him and unable to work.

 

Layla’s Story:

On April 28, Layla went to the hospital for a persistent fever and cough. She was sent for an x-ray and doctors found a 10cm malignant tumor in her right lung. Because of covid, Layla spent 2 weeks in the PICU by herself with neither parent being allowed to visit. Little Layla has been diagnosed with type II, stage 3, pleuropulmonary blastoma, a rare and aggressive pediatric cancer. Layla will be in the hospital for at least another month, although it’ll be a much longer process. She will be starting chemotherapy mid-May to hopefully shrink the tumor enough to remove it. Doctors previously tried to remove the tumor in surgery but determined it was too large and removing it could be fatal. Layla is strong and brave, she brightens every room she enters and has so much life ahead of her.
