Lân’s Tree & Children's Foundation of Guelph

On July 24th, our friend Lân tragically passed away while playing volleyball, surrounded by his best friends. Lân was an amazing person who touched the lives of many people. He was incredibly generous, thoughtful and absolutely hilarious. It was not possible to be in a bad mood when he was around. We miss him more than words can express.

Lân was a very outdoorsy guy and loved to spend time at the University of Guelph Arboretum with his family. His brother shared that helping Lân catch Pokémon at the Arboretum is among their most special family moments. We would like to dedicate a tree at the Arboretum in memory of Lân. This Umbrella Magnolia was our favourite tree at the Arboretum. It stands out from the others around it, and in the spring it has beautiful white blossoms. We knew it was the one when we found out it was planted in 1988, the same year Lân was born, and had a PokéStop beside it. The tree is located at the edge of a small grassy opening perfect for us to engage in one of Lân's favourite hobbies, playing lawn games. There will be a plaque at the base of the tree dedicated to Lân.

Please help us reach our goal to dedicate this beautiful Umbrella Magnolia to Lân to give his family and friends a place to visit and remember him. We are so very grateful for your support.

We are so blown away by everyone’s generosity. Thank you SO much. Any extra donations will be donated in Lân’s honour to the Free to Grow Program through the Children's Foundation of Guelph and Wellington. This program funds children and youth from low-income families in Guelph to participate in recreational activities. Specifically, the money will go towards supporting children and youth in enrolling in soccer by covering fees and purchasing necessary equipment. Lân had a love for the game of soccer and we know it would bring him joy to see kids enjoying this game that was so special to him.
