It Takes A Village

We are seeking to help a dear friend, Jeffrey Telvi, with an urgent need for funds to provide for housing, food and basic essentials. We are looking for a short-term solution of 3 months. Jeffrey was recently released from jail, after spending 8 months – locked up 17 hours a day - on a very legally ambiguous charge of supposedly making a (third party) threat to an elected official (a text message to a so-called ‘friend who sent it to his friend then sent it to his friend ’). In the process, while he was in custody, he was physically attacked by a member of the Bloods gang (an attack that could have been fatal, but thankfully Jeffrey was able to handle himself), he lost almost everything he had, including his apartment, his dog & 3 vehicles that were impounded resulting in $36,000.00 in storage fees. As you can clearly see they stacked the deck against him as the cars are slated for auction. You may not know but Jeff has no family to turn to in the Nassau County, NY area as you may know his sister Gisselle died in 2021 & both his parents are in nursing homes. Recently Jeff’s childhood home which he grew up in & renovated for the benefit of the estate in 2021 just sold for $400,000.00 under market value to a local contractor. His case centered on his defending the rights of his mother, a victim of elder care abuse and financial irregularities in Nassau County, NY. This type of abuse is widespread in the tri-state area as recently shown in an ABC News special investigation lead by investigative journalist Kristin Thorne. Another recent piece, in Bloomberg, highlights how the guardianship system drain the accounts of the rich and poor. This is what Jeffrey has been up against. What Jeffrey experienced should be a cautionary tale for everyone and we urge you to not only help provide some financial support for Jeffrey, but to become familiar with elder law practices in the tri-state area – and become involved! The amount we are seeking to raise is $12,000, which will cover, in addition to housing and food, legal and medical expenses. Thank you!

TESTIMONIALS

Terry Schappert.(Retired Master Sgt.)
My name is Terry Schappert and I'm a 25-year veteran of the US Army Green Berets. I've known, and been good friends with, Jeff Telvi for several decades, and I can speak with authority on his character. During my career in the Army I've trained, deployed, and fought alongside some of the best men the country has to offer. Although Jeff was never a military guy, he has many of the same characteristics of those men - loyalty, honor, grit, and a big heart. It's why we've been friends for so long.

I have known Jeff for over 30 years. We met living in New York City and were part of a community of artists and actors. I got to know Jeff on a very deep and personal level. Jeff is a very passionate human being with very strong convictions. His genuine nature is something that I truly respect. I know many people who love and respect Jeff.

Mr. Telvi came to our church, of which I am on the Parish Council, over 2 years ago. What became instantly apparent in speaking with Mr. Telvi was that he possessed an extremely acute moral compass. To the extent that we are judged by the friends we keep, I have to say that Mr. Telvi’s friends are morally and socially above any reproach; in a word, they are some of the best friends and upstanding people one could hope to know. To my wife and I, this was a very clear indication of what Mr. Telvi’s character truly is.

My relationship with Jeff Telvi goes back to Spring of 2001, where we met in Jiujitsu. We have been close friends ever since partaking in athletics together. He has personally cared for my daughter for over a year while he maintained custody of his own as a single father in an apartment in Manhattan during 2008. We speak on the phone daily & have done so throughout the years. He has overcome insurmountable odds since I have known him & I believe it’s because we share the same martial arts spirit through out faith. We go on hikes together, swim & attend church on weekends at the local destinations in Glen Cove. He has been there for me in many ways throughout the years during my hard times as well. He has many great qualities. One is that he always admits & seeks to elevate himself his courage is king as well as his heart that is always in the right place. Life is never a straight path for us all however we are all coming together to help him on the current path he was forced to be on.
