Tuckaway Farm Fire Recovery

Donation protected
On the night of March 30, 3 large barn structures at Tuckaway Farm were destroyed in a massive fire. These barns housed animals, hay, farm tools and equipment, seedlings, grain storage and seed cleaning equipment, the farm's solar panels, and much more. Two of these buildings were designed and handbuilt by Chuck Cox over 40 years ago and the third was constructed by the family with helping hands from the community.

While most of the animals were rescued - including their horse, many sheep, and the Wentworth Hunt hound dogs in an adjacent kennel - they experienced a loss of their yearling sheep, the destruction of all housed equipment and the 3 large buildings. Firefighters were able to save several smaller buildings, and most importantly the Cox's family house located right next to the barns.

Tuckaway Farm is a three generation family farm that is well known in the community and the Cox Family has been farming on the property for nearly 50 years, growing vegetables, fruit, hay, blueberries, and grains, They sell to many area restaurants, markets, and from their own farm store and CSA.

This fire has dramatically impacted Tuckaway Farm and the Cox family's livelihood. The full extent of the fire's impact is still being determined but despite insurance, they will need support over the coming months to replace farm equipment and rebuild structures.

Tuckaway Farm was built by Chuck and Laurel Cox in the early 1980s from the ground up. They now manage the farm together with their eldest son, Dorn, and his wife, Sarah. It is a remarkably diversified farm with a strong focus on land stewardship and building healthy soil, food, and community.

As a close family friend, my hope is to raise funds to get them through the next few months and help them replace farm equipment, care for their livestock, and rebuild. They will have both short and long term impacts and any donations will help them through this challenging time.

Please help us reach our goals to support this incredible family who contribute so much to the broader Seacoast community.
