Help Tunis Lomax's Family to Keep on living

My name is Captain Dominic Smyth (United States Air Force), brother-in-law to Tunis Lomax, and I am writing on behalf of Tunis Lomax's Family.

A loving husband, father, and breadwinner represent a desirable pillar of a family. Tunis Lomax possessed these characteristics and more whose presence in the community contributed much to the camaraderie and joy in the neighborhood. However, what is left of Tunis is only the memories of moments that his family, relatives, and neighbors had cherished. Shot in cold blood while entering his home from the backdoor on August 20, 2022, by a shooter, without provocation, Tunis fell to the ground. Tunis’ lifeless body could only wish to move, carry on, and pursue his dream for his family: his widow and four children (two sons and two daughters).

Reality would tell us that the lives of Tunis’ wife and four young children are on the verge of collapse. Tunis’ journey toward the other end of the tunnel translates to the absence of a role model who could continue to provide for his family's basic needs. Without Tunis, paying for his children's education and mortgage would be impossible. Dying without life insurance, Tunis had to leave his family, leaving them to face the start of living in poverty, as their savings were already used to finance the initial payment for their house-to-be. In the end, Tunis’ family will join the list of homeless Americans with no clear sense of what’s to come to them.

We tend to remember our loved ones who passed away not for what they said or did but for how often they made us feel good, especially during trying times. We wish we had done the same for them while still alive. We can only provide care for whomever they left behind. Of course, most of you do not personally know Tunis, but we do not have only to wish that his family would be cared for. We can have a share of demonstrating what makes life meaningful and what makes humanity worthy of preservation. Helping Tunis’ family to overcome the clear and present challenge in their life and making them feel that, just like you and me, other people care for them.
