Turkey Earthquake - Help to make a difference...
Donation protected
We come to you with heavy hearts to bring attention to the devastating earthquake that has hit Turkey. The natural disaster, which was as strong as the energy released by 32 nuclear bombs dropped on Hiroshima, has caused immense destruction, loss of life, and displacement, leaving many families without homes, loved ones, and hope. As we speak, rescue teams are working tirelessly to find survivors and provide aid to those affected by the earthquake. The situation is dire, and the people of Turkey need our help.
As a team, we are launching a GoFundMe campaign to support relief efforts for the earthquake victims in Turkey. Our team consists of Sevinc Binatli, Yasemin Dilbaz, Seda Topal, Nesil Bagci, Burak Binatli, Ali Bagci, Murat Topal, and Burak Dilbaz. We believe that together, we can make a difference in the lives of those who have been affected by this tragedy.
Donating, regardless of the amount, can significantly aid in providing essential needs such as shelter, food, and medical assistance to those who require it. We will be donating to Ahbap, a reputable NGO actively working on the ground in Turkey, every time we accumulate 10K in donations. Our goal is to ensure that the funds reach the appropriate individuals and organizations that can make a positive impact on the lives of those impacted by the earthquake.
Additionally, to ensure transparency and accountability, we will share proof of every transfer made to Ahbap with our donors. We want to make sure that every donation goes towards the relief efforts for the earthquake victims in Turkey.
If the funds raised exceed our expectations, we will engage with an independent audit company to conduct an audit of our expenses and transactions. This will provide further transparency and assurance that the funds are being used for the intended purpose.
We urge you to support our campaign and join us in assisting those affected by the earthquake in Turkey. Together, we can make a difference and help rebuild the lives of those impacted by this tragedy. Thank you for your support, and let us show the world that our collective compassion and generosity can make a real difference.
EARTHQUAKE FACTS:
On February 6, 2023, devastating earthquakes struck southern and central Turkey at 4:17 am and 1:24 pm respectively. The first earthquake had a magnitude of 7.8, followed by another with a magnitude of 7.6, and 6,000 aftershocks. The impact of the disaster has been catastrophic, with an estimated death toll of over 72,000 and more than 180,000 people believed to be trapped under rubble. The cost of the disaster is estimated to be USD 84 billion, and more than 55,000 buildings have been destroyed or damaged, rendering them uninhabitable.
Hundreds and thousands of people have taken refuge in their cars, at relief shelters or hotels. Adding to the tragedy, a large winter storm further complicated initial rescue efforts, with plummeting temperatures and snow, making survival difficult for those who were trapped or displaced. The cold is still a major issue with no electricity or gas in parts of the region to heat the temporary shelters.
The Turkish government has appealed to the international community for aid, with at least 70 countries offering assistance in search and rescue operations. Over 25,000 search and rescue personnel have been deployed to the affected provinces, and hundreds of thousands of people have sought refuge in relief shelters or hotels. The earthquake has impacted 10 cities and the region is home to the world's largest population of refugees, with more than 15 million people living in the affected areas.
Among the survivors of the earthquakes are about 356,000 pregnant women who urgently need access to health services, the UN sexual and reproductive health agency has said.
The Turkish disaster management agency AFAD raised the number of confirmed fatalities from the February 6th earthquake to 41,156.
On Monday, February 20th, another earthquake struck Turkey with a strength of 6.4 on the Richter scale, further exacerbating the trauma for residents who were already recovering from the previous disaster. Many people have left their homes and taken to the streets, bringing blankets and seeking refuge in their cars. The fear of returning to their homes is palpable, and the devastation caused by the new earthquake has only worsened the situation. Several buildings have collapsed, trapping people inside, including those who had tried to return home or retrieve their belongings. This latest earthquake has dealt another blow to an already devastated region.
As part of the International aid response, an Australian search-and-rescue team, headed by Grant Rice, has been doing everything they can to help.
Mr Rice told ABC Radio his team hasn't found any survivors but has been a crucial part of recovering bodies.
"We haven't gotten anyone alive out of out of any predicaments, but we have helped with a lot of people repatriate their loved ones back to their family members and things like that," he said.
Mr Rice said he had never seen devastation like what he and his team have encountered.
"I can't compare it to anything, because the amount of destruction throughout the city where we are [in] at the moment is unbelievable," he said.
