Turkish Teenager sails for Great Britain !

Hi,

My name is Miné.

I am the Mum Manager for my Optimist sailor son Cinar Ege Dortbas. I am fundraising for him to race for Great Britain in the 2022 Optimist European Championship.

 

Cinar has been an optimist sailor since he was 7 years old, he is now 15. This year he was selected for the GBR European Team and is going to race in the 2022 Optimist European Championship in Denmark, from 30 July - the 6th of August.

 

I moved to London with Cinar as a single mum in 2019, five months before the first lock-down. Upon arrival, he continued his optimist sailing training and activities as a member of IOCA and RYA in London and around the UK. I was managing his training and events with limited resources. We were traveling by train and sharing lifts to transport his boat to each event. I was able to organize his events with the help and contribution of fellow sailors' parents. The sailing community has always been helpful, and the spirit of the sailing culture in the UK welcomed and supported us, myself as the Mum manager and Cinar as an optimist sailor. Despite the problems faced with the pandemic, and being newcomers to this country, these obstructions did not stop him from getting us on the road to achieving his goal.

 

We are starting this crowdfunding appeal to help us to continue his sailing journey with the GBR European Team at the Optimist European Championships in August 2022. The fund will be used for his travel, training and coaching, equipment, and accommodation expenses.
