Türkiye Earthquake Relief Campaign
Donation protected
As Turkish university students studying in Manchester, we are devastated to hear about the huge impact of the earthquake. On February 6th, at 4:17 am, an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.8 devastated 10 provinces in the southeast region. At 13:24, another earthquake with a magnitude of 7.5 occurred, causing several other buildings to collapse. More than 31,000 people have lost their lives and over 80,000 people are injured. There are still some people desperately waiting to be rescued from the rubble.
As students living abroad, following careful consideration and long discussion, and based on extremely high demand from the student body, we have decided to set up a fundraiser to support those affected by this disaster as the University of Manchester Turkish & Northern Cypriot Society. The donations will be evenly distributed among AHBAP, AKUT, and AFAD. This is in tandem with our support for the Northwestern Turkish Community Association's efforts for gathering supplies. We have set up an extra donation spot on Oxford road, outside of the Students' Union building.
The main supplies that are high in demand by the organizations are:
Winter clothes, blankets, tents, hygienic pads, shoes, socks, sanitary products, empty boxes, heaters (pocket heater, portable heating), canned food, snacks, sleeping bags etc.
All the money raised will be transferred to charities and organizations:
AFAD: Disaster and Emergency Management Authority of Turkey.
AHBAP: Fully transparent voluntary network currently helping those who are in need.
AKUT: Voluntary organization involved in searching, assisting and rescuing the victims.
We need your help!
Remember: 1 Pound = 22.7 Turkish Liras; therefore every donation counts!
