Amber Asher-Jones family help restore our electric

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Amber, and our electricity was shut off unexpectedly the other day. We had been getting assistance from Cape for our electric because back in November and December, our family had covid, and my mother was placed on a ventilator and hospitalized throughout the holidays for around two months, and as a result, I had to take off work to care for my dad who was very ill with it in addition to having dementia. We were helping pay their electric and fell behind on our own bills as well from being off work as care givers and from being sick. Cape helped us out, which was wonderful, but some communication wires got crossed, and they ran out of funds. We had no notifications that our electric had gone unpaid and that the program ended without us realizing. We woke up to our power being shut off and a tag on our door stating that we have to come up with $1,900 to turn our power back on. We also lost most of our groceries that I had spent my last $500 on. Local agencies will not help unless you have been on food stamps. We applied, but there is at least a 30 day turnaround on the food stamps because of covid, and we just don’t have that kind of time. In addition to us two adults, we have our teenage son that lives here and pets. We have no friends or family that can help, and we have exhausted all means of looking for help from agencies and people that we know. This has been a huge blow to us, as a family unit, and I am the only one with a stable job right now. Darren’s work outsourced his position and so he has been working gig jobs such as DoorDash until he finds a more permanent job. I have been fighting for full time hours at my line cook job, but they have cut most of us back to part time, which is really bad timing. We are all working as hard as we can, but I won’t even get paid for another week and a half, and gig work is slow for Darren right now. This is where you come in. Every dollar that you send will be put towards turning our electric back on plus any fees deducted by go fund me and Centerpoint and to save our home, so that we and our pets can have more stable shelter. Thank you in advance, and any little thing helps, even ten dollars!
