I could never imagine I would be writing this message. But when life turns upside down, we learn to ask for help with an open heart.

My 43-year-old sister was diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma, triple-negative, stage 3C — an aggressive type of breast cancer. The world stopped when we heard this diagnosis. But there's no time to pause. She needs to fight. She needs to live.

Because, besides being a strong and hardworking woman, she is a single mother to a 3-year-old boy. A beautiful little boy who completely depends on her.

The treatment ahead is tough: chemotherapy and immunotherapy, followed by surgery, and depending on the results, more chemo or immunotherapy. She will also have to undergo radiotherapy.

On top of that, we discovered she has a mutation in the RAD51D gene, which increases the risk of new cancers. Because of this, even after all of that, she will still need preventive removal of her ovaries and fallopian tubes.

She has already started chemo, and now we are focused on her treatment.
