Merite pa Mande - Assisting Undocumented Haitians
Tax deductible
"Vandredi Anba Tonnèl" is a weekly gathering of Haitians and family of Haitian descent, which has been meeting every Friday night in Brooklyn, NY since May of 2010. We meet to discuss what's going on in Haiti, what's happening here in the United States where we live right now, and struggles going on everywhere to bring about a just and sustainable world.
Towards the end of the month of May 2020, we decided to launch an emergency fundraising initiative we call "Merite pa Mande". The expression is a Kreyòl language saying which means those in need should not have to ask for help. We are hoping to raise at least $30,000 to help undocumented folks in our community who have been most impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic but they have no access to any kind of government relief.
This fundraising effort will run until Tuesday, June 30th, 2020. We have already raised over half of the $30,000 locally and we hope that this gofundme campaign will help get us the rest in the next 4 days.
Yes, we definitely do understand that this is a meager effort to try to address a huge problem but it will definitely put food on the table for some families and it will help others with a little something to make ends meet as the eviction moratorium is soon ending in our area.
We are very grateful to Flanbwayan Haitian Literacy Project, a 501c3 non-for-profit community organization, which is helping us collect funds for this project.
We ask those who can to please give, and please give generously.
Thank you!
