Help With Max’s Medical Expenses

When we first saw Max’s pictures on Facebook back in February, it really was love at first site. I mean, who could resist such a squishy face?? Certainly not us! We applied for him immediately and were SO excited when our family was chosen to be  his forever family. 

Max immediately fit right in with every single animal and human in our house (there are a lot!). But he unfortunately came to us with a nagging cough believed to be from the heartworms dying off after a successful heartworm treatment. We were back and forth to our vet a couple of times just to get it checked out. But after antibiotics and cough tablets didn’t help, our vet decided that Max really needed some chest X-rays to rule out something more serious.

 What came back on the X-rays was devastating. Max seemed to have an enlarged heart and pulmonary vessel along with something infiltrating his lungs. He was immediately started on lasix to pull any excess fluid off of his heart & lungs and an echocardiogram was ordered. 

Max had his echo yesterday and we got the results today. He has an extremely enlarged pulmonary vessel and right side of his heart. And most devastatingly, he has severe pulmonary hypertension. The prognosis for this is not good and the heart medication that he’s now on to try and prolong his life as long as possible is over $250 a month. That on top of the repeat echocardiograms that he will need and the nearly $1000 we’ve already spent on vet care for him is just too much for us to handle on our own. 

We don’t know if Max has weeks or months or maybe even a year with us, but we don’t want to spend that time worrying about how we’re going to pay for his vet care. So if you’re financially able to give any amount at all, we would be so very, very grateful. And we know Max would be too.
