Hi, I’m Cyane Williams, I am an artist who specializes in portraits, people and pets. Last summer I was living at the river, honing my painting skills. One of my pet portraits. Portrait of my goddaughter. The week after July 4th I received a notice saying I might have breast cancer. I did have breast cancer, and in September and October I had two lumpectomies to remove the cancer. I was living two hours from the nearest treatment center, so I moved to Richmond in January into the only place I could find on short notice. My three cats and I moved in Jan 14. I started radiation on Jan 31…finished daily radiation on Feb 27. On Feb 28, my landlord said I had to move because I “ took up too much space, and I had not unpacked yet.” He knew about my radiation, he said “it’s not my problem”. He wanted to get me out bc he had someone who wanted to rent two rooms instead of on in this shared house (he doesn’t live here, my housemate had no complaint about my using the back hall as a “studio” which my landlord had agreed to when I moved in).For the next six weeks, despite exhaustion from radiation, I was looking for something I could afford, closer to town. I have depleted my savings in the time I’ve been battling cancer, and was relying on commissions, and help from friends to get by. On Easter Sunday, I went to church, while I was walking across the parking lot, I had a hard time breathing. A nice father and daughter came out as I doubled over, they asked what they could do to help. I asked if they could get my car, by the time the dad brought the car, it was clear I needed to go to the hospital. I had a very hard time catching my breath. When we got to the hospital, they very kindly took me into the ER…and stayed until I was taken back for tests. I only know their first names, Neal and Rachel. They were the first miracle of the journey. My first week in the hospitalI had a number of tests in the ER. By the time my cousin arrived, it was determined I probably had a mass on my ovary. I was also filled with fluid in my abdomen (the reason I couldn’t breathe). I was admitted that night. The next day, 4.4 liters of fluid were drained so o could breathe. The fluid had to be tested for cancer cells, as it had been throughout my abdomen. The doctors said we’d wait to see what the test said on Thursday. Most ovarian cancer is stage 3-4 there is no early detection. It was an excruciating four days. I was facing nine weeks of chemo, a hysterectomy, and nine more weeks of chemo. This will be happening for at least five months. My landlord did say I could stay to the end of May (his other people fell through). I need to move before I start chemo. My 18 yo cat in her lifelong spot on my shoulder when I got home the first time this week. April 14, I had a full hysterectomy before starting chemo because of the size of the mass. Luckily, it was caught early, but I still need 18 weeks of chemo. I was released the next Tuesday. I returned home Weds. on Thursday morning (yesterday) I had trouble breathing. I was sent for a CT scan, and had numerous emboli in my lungs. I was readmitted to the hospital overnight, and given massive blood thinners which I now have to be on the rest of my life. Returning to the hospital 24 hours after I got home. This month (April) I have not been able to get out to generate commissions, and I still have to pay my bills, and my May rent here. But, most importantly, I need to find a quiet place to move closer to where my hospital is. The average rent for a studio/one bedroom is $1200+utilities. I need to have the down payment and at least first month’s rent so I can move. This is the fourth time I’ve moved in 15 mos (through no fault of my own). I need help getting enough to make the down payment, and for my first two months rent. I hope I will have commissions while im in chemo and can make money then, but right now I HAVE to be able to move in six weeks. Even if I had government help, the red tape takes months, I don’t have months. I will start chemo in early June and will have it until at least October. Please help me be able to move somewhere safe, to HEAL…this has been a pretty difficult 8 months, and it will get harder before it gets better. I am hoping to keep my kits with me. One is 18, and the other two are 7…one of whom I had to raise money to save last year when he too had a life threatening illness. He survived (my vet was surprised, but I am devoted to him). My 18yo cat when I returned from 11 days away in the hospital. Please help me if you can. Even $5 adds up. I never thought I’d get cancer, much less twice in a year. The miracle is it’s treatable. I just need to be somewhere safe to do it. So many miracles have brought me to this point. I KNOW I’m meant to survive and keep painting. I need a little help at the moment. God Bless you. And Thank you!
