Two Stroke Survivor Medical Bills - Alan Stordal
My dad, Alan Stordal, had a massive stroke on the right side of his brain on August 6, 2020.
Unclear of how long he was having a stroke before he was found partially paralyzed and non-responsive, he was rushed to Providence Hospital in Everett, WA where he was quickly admitted into care.
The below photo shows the massive area the stroke affected in his brain, which is the same part of the brain he had a stroke in just 10 yearsearlier.
Within the first 2 days being in the hospital, I was told he would never be able to move the right side of his body, swallow food, understand speech or speech again- being told I needed to start thinking about hospice.
By the grace of God my dad started to recover slowly but surely. His recovery is nothing short of a MIRACLE.
He spent a week in the hospital, and 3 weeks in inpatient-rehab at Providence Hospital. They provided amazing care and truly catapulted my dads healing to places we were told wasn’t possible.
He is able to walk 100% independent, use his right hand for some things, swallow food, write his name, sing the ABCs and laugh at a good joke. If there’s one thing my dad will never lose — it’s his personality.
He still has a long road to recovery.
He is seeing speech therapy and occupational therapy at least 1x a week. And sometimes physical therapy.
He is suffering from severe apraxia (the inability to take a thought and form a sentence) and mild aphasia (does not understand some instructions or words).
He also lost most of his muscle movement in his right hand, which is where occupational therapy comes in to help him learn small things we take for granted, like flipping cards or coins, orholding a cup.
Because of both strokes, and what condition this stroke left him in, he is no longer able to work and will be on fixed government disability for the rest of his life.
His medical bills from being in the hospital are starting to pile from what his insurance won’t cover, and with the therapy he’ll need to continue working on the conditions that are still in their severity, we don’t expect those bills to end anytime soon.
I am my dads POA and sole-provider, and It would mean so much to me to never have to see my dad worry about how he is going to pay his never ending medical bills.
If you have even an extra $5 to spare for this Two Stroke Survivor, it would mean so much more than I could ever put in words ❤️
Thank you so much for your time
