Ava Strong

My daughter Ava is six years old, and recently diagnosed with Chiari Malformation. Her condition has caused her to develop something called Syrinx, which is a spinal blockage. Chiari causes compression on the brain which also causes excruciating headaches. With the severe Syrinx in her spine, Vanderbilt Neurosurgery has suggested surgery to decompress her brain and take out a portion of her spine. Without this surgery Ava could lose her muscle strength, balance, speech, ability to swallow, ability to breathe and worst case paralysis. Chiari like this needs the best care, and Vanderbilt has a really bad reputation for treating these cases. We will need to travel to get Ava the best care, and the Neurosurgeon best to do this is up north. He specializes in this, and knows how to look for things that also can cause Chiari such as Ehlers Danlos which Avas brother and I both suffer with. Avas current insurance will not let us travel out of state therefore we have put a life changing request in to a different insurance. This may or may not get approved soon. No matter what I want to make sure I can get my baby girl the best chance of a normal life, headache free, pain free, and to have the best care. I’m asking for everyone to keep her in your prayers as she is so little and to be going through this is so big. Update-After so much prayer, and asking God for guidance surgery is scheduled for November 9th for baby girl. We will be gone for at least a few weeks. They will be performing decompression surgery with duraplasty. This is the greatest Neurosurgeon in the world (literally), and we trust he is making the best decision for Ava. She will be in the ICU for 3-5 days after surgery, and then have to stay in New York until her follow up. The neurosurgeon will give us hopefully the okay to go home. He wants his patients close for the first 10 days. All donations to Avas Gofund me are so appreciated. But above all prayer
