Tyler & Chelsea’s IVF Journey

Tyler and I have been together for 10 years and married for 4. We have always known that we wanted to have a family and started trying shortly after we got married in 2018 with no success.

 

In the summer of 2019, I underwent surgery to check for anything that could be inhibiting our chances and found that one of my Fallopian tubes are blocked. We were told that it might just take a little longer and to keep trying.

 

Fast forward a year, we had been to numerous doctors appointments, had numerous tests done and got a referral to University Hospitals Fertility Clinic. We had our first appointment in the summer of 2020. They recommended we try Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) to improve our chances, which cost us about $1,500 each round. Insurance did not cover any of it. We did 3 rounds of IUI over the course of a year with no success. In-vitro Fertilization (IVF) was then recommended to us.

 

We started the process to start IVF in January of 2022. For those who may not know, the cost of IVF is about $12-$15,000 each cycle. Again, we underwent more testing, including genetic testing that was not covered by insurance, which cost $2,000.

 

April 2022, I underwent an egg retrieval.
May 2022, we had a successful embryo transfer that ended in a miscarriage at almost 7 weeks. We hope to do another transfer when we are both ready, which is another $12-$15,000.

 

Our hope is to raise some money for our current and future medical bills. Fortunately, my insurance covered part of our first IVF cycle, but I have maxed out on my lifetime coverage and will now be paying 100% out of pocket from here on out.
