Tyler Davies's Eagle Scout Project
Donation protected
Hi, I am Tyler Davies, Life Scout from Boy Scout Troop 892 of Fleming Island, FL. My journey in the Boy Scouts of America began when I was in 1st Grade as a Tiger in Cub Scouts. I then worked my way to Arrow of Light, crossed over into Boy Scouts, and now I have almost achieved my Eagle Scout emblem. I have very much enjoyed the volunteer service aspect of Scouting, as serving my community and staying involved locally is very important to me. I have completed all of the 21 merit badges required along with the other requirements for Eagle rank. The final step is the completion of my Eagle Scout Service Project. It must be planned, fundraised, organized, and led by me, with the guidance of my Scoutmaster, parents, and beneficiary personnel.
For my Eagle Scout Service Project, I will be collaborating with Hunger Fight, a non-profit organization whose mission is to help the underprivileged of the local community. Their "two-pronged" program includes providing food to Title 1 Elementary students who go home on the weekends and may or may not have meals on the table and also aiding in the reading and literary development of preschoolers in need by providing them with books of their own. Did you know that food insecurity affects 1 in 6 people and nearly 1 in 4 children? Also, according to Hunger Fight, 90% of a child’s critical brain development occurs by age 5, and children who receive high-quality education by age 5 are 70% more likely to graduate from high school.
The goal of this project is to raise $4,000 to provide the materials needed to pack 10,500 meals, as well as donating 350 children's books to local preschoolers. These three different meals are shelf-stable, only require boiled water, can feed a family of four, and will be distributed to Clay County Title 1 Elementary students weekly throughout the year.
In addition to the funds needed for the meals and books, we will also need 30 to 50 volunteers to make the project possible. All volunteers who attend will be given instructions for how the meal packing will work and will be divided and assigned to meal assembly stations that include scooping, bagging, measuring, sealing, and packing the ingredients. The project will be held on June 27th, starting at 3:00 pm, at the Christ's Church Fleming Island Campus.
With your contributions, I plan to make a widespread impact for those who face food insecurity in my community while also increasing the accessibility of books to young children. Any and all donations are very much appreciated, and any extra funds raised will be donated to Hunger Fight to further benefit their mission. If you would like to volunteer your time for the meal packing or would like to meet with me for an in-person donation, please message me by pushing the "contact" button toward the bottom of this page. Thank you so much for your time!
Sincerely,
Tyler B. Davies
