My name is Melande, and I am raising funds for Tyler Schifsky and his family. My very close friend and her family underwent a traumatic experience on Saturday, May 13th, when her little brother, Tyler, experienced a massive heart attack at the young age of 29. Tyler complained of chest pains early in the morning and was driven to Amery Hospital by his close friend and wife. Eight minutes from the hospital, Tyler lost consciousness and his heart stopped beating. Life saving measures were performed by his wife, Colleen, who gave chest compressions until they arrived at Amery hospital where a defibrillator was used to obtain a heartbeat. Tyler’s heart stopped again shortly after, and they were able to get it back again with the defibrillator. Tyler was airlifted to Regions Hospital in St. Paul Minnesota, where a 100% blockage of the left anterior descending artery was determined and removed from a stent procedure. A temporary heart pump was inserted to help pump Tyler’s heart which he will be slowly weaned off as his heart regains strength. Tyler was moved to the University of Minnesota the following day, where he is currently under heavy sedation for the next week or so. He remains in critical condition, but the family’s outlook is positive.
Anyone that knows Tyler, they will tell you he is the most dedicated, persistent, hardworking, and loving person. After Tyler comes home from his 60 hour a week job, he still wants to take care of his family and would do anything to ensure their happiness and comfort. This man would put the weight of the world on his shoulders for his family and friends. Tyler married his soul mate, Colleen Schifsky, on December 21st, 2019. They reside on their farm in Amery Wisconsin where they raise pigs, chickens, and goats. Tyler is the sole provider for their family, working as a machinist. They expanded their family with a perfect little boy named Holt Sawyer Schifsky, on February 16th, 2023. Tyler has described becoming a father as the best thing that has ever happened in his life. As the sole provider for their household and a brand-new baby boy, this is financially devastating to this young family. Instead of celebrating Colleen’s very first Mother’s Day with her husband and three month old baby, she spent it in a hospital waiting room after living through the most traumatic experience of her life. I would like to raise these funds to give Tyler and his family peace of mind in this difficult time. Tyler has committed his life to caring for others and ensuring happiness to friends and family. If you have met Tyler, you know he would NEVER ask for help. It’s time for us to help Tyler come home to his beautiful family and focus on his recovery.
Follow along for updates on Tyler’s progress and road to recovery.
update 5/16/23: Tyler woke up a little and squeezed the nurse’s hand and wiggled his toes when she asked. Good news! They are weaning him off the heart pump and will hopefully remove it today. After that they will slowly bring him out of sleep and remove the breathing tube.
