In early February of this year, Tyler discovered a lump that he and Kelsey very quickly went to the doctor for. At the end of February he had the mass removed, and shortly thereafter they received the news that Tyler had testicular cancer. This type of testicular cancer, 100% Pure Embryonal Carcinoma, is a very rare and extremely aggressive form. Of all people that get testicular cancer, only 3-4% end up with this form. With this type of cancer there is a 50% chance it will spread, and a 10% chance it could end up in the lungs. The doctors were hopeful that they had removed it before it had spread, since it was caught early. Tyler and Kelsey moved forward with positive attitudes, expecting to have one round of chemotherapy. He had scans done to see if it had spread, and on April 2nd they received the news that the scans had come back, revealing 4 nodes of cancer in his lungs. Tyler began chemotherapy on April 4th. The kind of chemotherapy he is receiving is a very aggressive form, each round taking 21 days to complete. Depending on the results of scans, his chemo treatments will continue until June.
The purpose of this GoFundMe account is to help Tyler and Kelsey with all of the bills that will come along with this trying time in their lives. Tyler's medications that combat the side effects of chemotherapy, chemotherapy itself, and hospital stays are very costly. In addition, they have hotel bills and travel expenses for trips to and from Chicago and Indianapolis to meet with specialists. They also have to change their diet to all organic, non processed foods. They have diminished income due to the utilization and depletion of all of Kelsey's vacation time, and an ever changing schedule, as she has been alongside Tyler every step of this journey. We are not sure the repercussions this treatment will have on Tyler and Kelsey financially, mentally, and physically. It is very possible that the chemo could cause lasting adverse effects on Tyler and there are also costs involved with an attempt to keep these at a minimum.
Tyler and Kelsey have been an amazing example of two people who love each other, their families, and their God. They remain hopeful in the fact that, although he was diagnosed with one of the most aggressive forms, the doctors are saying that he still has a good prognosis with a high cure rate. They are nothing but thankful for all the support they are receiving that spans across the country. They are thankful for churches and individuals who send up prayers for them, meals that have been provided by many, and words of encouragement and love that they receive daily. They are thankful for their employers and coworkers who have stepped up to help them with their needs. They are thankful for so much, because they truly have a good life, and a beautiful support system surrounding them. Tyler said recently... "You know how people say God doesn't give you more than you can handle? Well, he must think I'm pretty strong!"
Any donations are greatly appreciated, and if you cannot or do not want to donate... We understand. We just ask that you say a little prayer for Tyler and Kelsey, and send positive thoughts and love their way. EVERY bit of love makes a difference!
