Tyler's Brain Tumor Journey
Donation protected
Hi all, my name is Skyla and I've created this fundraiser on behalf of my husband Tyler in hopes of receiving support from our community during a very trying time.
Tyler is 29 years old. Within the last year, he fulfilled a long-term goal of his - starting his own business in the automotive industry which requires traveling from shop to shop working on safety systems in cars. Tyler loves what he does for work as well as spending free time with family, friends and our loving dog Kalvin. Anyone who has ever met Tyler can agree that he is an amazing person that has a heavily positive impact on everyone's lives. He is incredibly strong, happy, supportive and loving.
Tyler and I went about our day as normal until I received a series of phone calls from Tyler's phone from a Paramedic who informed me Tyler had a seizure at a shop while working and was rushed to the ER. The hospital did a CT scan and found an abnormality and ordered an MRI. The MRI unfortunately revealed a large brain tumor on the left side of Tyler's brain which caused the seizure. An emergency surgery was scheduled for the next day.
Tyler went into surgery at the University of Miami around 7am and surgery did not complete until 2pm. It was a long, difficult process but Tyler has made it through the surgery. The surgeon was able to get upwards of 90% of the tumor removed. As a side effect of the surgery, Tyler is struggling with some basic speech and some motor functions. This is still a large step in the right direction, but we will not know exactly what the tumor is until we receive the biopsy from what was removed. Tyler has been blessed to work with an amazing neurosurgeon throughout this process, however our current knowledge stop here.
Tyler's life has been put on hold. He is now on antiseizure medication with no anticipated end date at the moment. He is not allowed to drive for the foreseeable future and as such has lost the ability to work, has to be supervised at all times, and relearn some basic functions. Tyler has lost his independence.
It is very hard for us to ask for help during this time but with Tyler out of work for an unknown period of time, me out of work to stay home to help him, cost of the ER visit, initial diagnosis, surgery, pathology and unknown amount of after care, Tyler needs all the help he can get. The ultimate goal is for Tyler to regain the independence he once had.
As of right now, we are waiting for the pathology report. The appointment to receive this information is Oct 16th as well as his first appointment with the Oncology and Radiation teams to discuss the next step, after care & what the future holds for Tyler.
Tyler is strong willed and determined to get through this battle but he does need your support.
From everyone who loves Tyler, thank you for any and all support you can offer at this time.
With hope and love, Skyla and Tyler.
