Type 1 Diabetes and Trigeminal Neuralgia
Donation protected
Type 1 Diabetes is a beast. Trigeminal Neuralgia is a beast. Living with both of those things? My brother is recently discovering just how much of a beast that is.
My brother was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in 5th grade. This year (he's now 32) he was diagnosed (after years of facial pain and no one figuring out why) with Trigeminal Neuralgia (TN). With the new diagnosis, doctors are trying to get the pain under control with medication, but the medications are proving complicated with his Diabetes. During this process, his blood sugar is frighteningly all over the place (from 35 to over 600). As his sister watching him go through all of this, I would love to see him and his family provided with some help for the financial toll of this process, which is why I am asking for help.
He currently could greatly benefit from a more advanced insulin pump that proactively predicts when his blood sugar will go high or low, and also a nose spray that is now available to revive him from extremely low blood sugar instead of someone having to try and get a shot in him.
Insurance does not completely cover these, leaving out-of-pocket expenses around $2,000. There's also out-of-pocket expenses for glucose monitor supplies, office visits, etc. I would love to get these covered through donations so that him and his family do not have to even think about it.
The other thing I am requesting funding for is so that he and his wife can attend a national conference on TN to learn from the nation's experts about this recent diagnosis. The conference costs $295 per person, plus airfare and hotel costs.
At this moment, my brothers Diabetes is life-threatening. Selfishly, I want my brother around. I also want him around for his wife, kids, and the rest of his family and friends. If we can stabilize his diabetes, and then get some answers and pain management for his TN diagnosis, that would be amazing. Thank you for reading this and for considering helping my brother out!
