Typhoon Relief For Siargao
Donation protected
Hi everyone. I’m going to make this quick. Siargao got directly hit by a “SUPER TYPHOON” last Thursday, December 16th. People are displaced and in desperate need of shelter, food and water. I can’t help the whole island all at once, so I’m going to start in my neighborhood, team up with other people, and hopefully we can spread the love from there.
The initial plan:
• Set up a base in Lanuza/Cantilan. It’s perfect for resupplying, and it’s about 3-4 hours by boat to Siargao and vice versa. Hoping to make our first crossing within the week.
• Bring a team of professional chainsaw operators. We need them to cut fallen trees blocking the highly important access roads and trails. We can then use the lumber as building material for temporary shelters and home repairs. I already spoke to a few chainsaw operators via phone call and I will meet with them tomorrow (December 21st) to discuss the plan, their price, and the rules. I was also able to get 2 brand new heavy duty chainsaws and they can be made available to an accountable person wherever and whenever they are needed.
• Water filters. I was able to get 6 portable water filters, it was all that I could find. I have a deep water well at my property with an old-school manual hand pump. We can set-up a communal potable water station there. I can distribute some of the filters too to whomever appropriate.
• Gasoline generators. I was able to get 2 1000 watt portable generators to recharge lights, phones, and other essential electronic devices.
• Gasoline. Will fill up in Cantilan and will bring as much as possible. We need them for transportation, generators, and for the chainsaws.
• Lights. I was able to get about 30 solar rechargeable flashlights/lanterns. They can be plugged in too for recharging.
• Tools. I was able to get:
10 hammers
10 hand saws
5 crow bars
5 tin snips (to cut tin roofing)
300 kilos of common & umbrella nails
• Food, will load up as much as possible and as safely as possible.
I’ll end this right here for now, I gotta go. I love you guys. We need your help.
