Tyree AME Church Historical Renovation
Donation protected
Hello I am Rev. Dawn Hobson. I was appointed in 2021 as pastor of Tyree AME Church. Our church was built and dedicated in 1915.
Today, because of moisture and time, the church is not structurally sound and the 109-year-old sanctuary is at risk. The photo you are looking at shows a support beam leaning and causing separation in that wall. In turn panels from the ceiling are also loose. That is a small part of the overall problems. It is not structurally sound.
I need your help to keep it standing. I have finally identified the right contractors with the best skills, experience, prices and willingness to get the job done. We have been awarded grants by the Maryland Historic Trust, and members and friends are giving, but we fall significantly short of what is needed.
As I explored the history of this church it is clear that we are one of three important structures in the Germantown Historic District in Worcester County Maryland. More important, we feed the hungry, educate and feed children from low income households. Our building has traditionally been used not only for our worship but by the whole community for key events. We are an important part of the community.
Please donate to our fundraiser to keep our historic church building standing.
Thank you in advance
