Tyrone Daniels Education and Reentry Fund

This GoFundMe was created by friends of Tyrone Daniels, who has lost 30 + years of his life to wrongful conviction and imprisonment. Tyrone is represented by two courageous and exceptional attorneys, Lauren Kaeseberg and Maria de Arteaga of the Illinois Innocence Project, who are diligently working to free and exonerate him. He is currently enrolled in Northwestern University’s Prison Education Program (NPEP) working on earning his Bachelor's of Science in General Studies degree.

Tyrone is passionate about connecting with others through philosophy, education, and activism towards social justice. He intends to pursue a PhD in philosophy and a Masters in Business Administration upon his release. But in a society like ours, where mass incarceration extends far beyond literal prison walls, we are worried about where and what he'll be going back to after 30+ years of wrongful imprisonment.

The resources needed to meet the arduous challenge of reintegrating Tyrone back into society will be hard for him to marshal on his own. That is why direct fundraising action is necessary from those of us currently outside to support Tyrone's life and goals after incarceration.

Despite the injustices he's suffered, Tyrone has never stopped learning, connecting with others, and fighting for himself and others. He is an inspiration to his friends, and we're doing what we can now to make sure that his reentry is successful. Ultimately, in order for that to happen we believe his humanity must be respected, that he make the decisions that will determine his destiny, and that he has the financial support he needs to both provide for his basic human needs upon his reentry (clothing, food, shelter, and transportation) and to further his education.

All funds raised will be deposited directly into a bank account in Tyrone's name that has been established by a strong supporter and long time friend of his. Your support is critical in ensuring that our friend has the chance to pursue the life that should have been his all along.

To all the ANGELS, EDUCATORS, CONCERNED CITIZENS, DRUM MAJORS and MAJORETTES FOR JUSTICE, HUMANITARIANS, QUEENS, & STUDENTS who have supported me, I carry each of you with me, you continue to give me the energy and strength when I feel as though I have no more to get up and fight for justice another day. You all have been my light through some of my darkest days. I am inspired by each of you and forever grateful for your kindness, as well for your presence in my life.
