Tyrone Davis College Fund

Will you help me change the course of one man’s life? Meet my friend and mentee, Tyrone Davis, age 23, from the Anacostia area of Washington, DC and now a senior at Langston University, a Historically Black College in Oklahoma. Tyrone continues to defy the gravity of poverty and violence that engulfs his life. He is the first person in his family and the only kid in his peer group to attend college. Due to the pandemic, Langston closed its campus, Tyrone lost his two campus jobs, and he had to return home. He does not have enough money to pay the tuition bill balance for his final spring semester. Tyrone hopes to graduate in May 2021 with a degree in education and a teaching certificate. He wants to be a physical education teacher and a football coach to mentor and inspire the next generation. Your donation to my GoFundMe campaign will have that ripple effect. There is no gift that is too small. Together, we can help Tyrone graduate from college and make a change for good.
I met Tyrone in 2018 through my University of Pennsylvania classmate, Juanita Irving. Juanita has mentored and tutored Tyrone since he was a 9th grader. Both Juanita and I continue to stand by Tyrone because we recognize his honesty, love for people, care for his 8 younger siblings, openness to learning, and his bright smile even when he is suffering. Most of all, we have witnessed Tyrone's determination and optimism about his future.
During school breaks, Tyrone returns home to the Anacostia area of Washington, DC to coach youth at the local recreation center. He also serves as a mentor to children attending a local church where he is well known and admired by the elders and congregation who believe in his mission to achieve a college degree.
Due to the pandemic, Langston University closed its campus. Tyrone lost his two campus jobs and he does not have enough money to pay the final tuition bill balance of $4,500. I launched this GoFundMe campaign to raise the tuition money and to show Tyrone that he has a wide network of people who support his dream of becoming a teacher. Please consider a donation in any amount. There is no gift that is too small. Every dollar will make a difference in Tyrone’s life and will enable him to impact the lives of other young people. Let’s do this!
