WHAT IS THE HANCOCK HOUNDS DOG PARK?
We are proud to announce that Hancock Hounds Dog Park(HHDP) is now a New York State Not-Profit Corporation operating under Hancock Hounds Dog Park, Inc. and is also an IRS approved 501(c)3 charitable organization for community beautification as an S20 NTEE.
HHDP is a community based project actively raising funds to manage the Public Dog Park behind the Hancock Town Hall at 661 West Main Street that will benefit the local community as well as provide much needed community resources, physical exercise, and mental stimulation for the local dogs. We now have a large and a small dog run open to the public.
WHO IS THE DOG PARK FOR? EVERYONE!
The Hancock Hounds Dog Park will be only a short walk for many of the local village residents and available to all Town residents and regional commuters with handicap accessible parking at the Town Hall. The public dog park will also be conveniently located next to the new NYS (Tesla Turbo) Electric Vehicle Charging Station that will open in Fall 2022. Hancock is currently developing this amazing new station with the New York State Power Authority. This will allow tourists to stop and charge their vehicles on their journey, and also walk their dogs in a safe environment at the same time, truly welcoming families and new faces into our town and enticing them to stay longer.
HHDP also intends to welcome local artists to display their works at the Public Dog Park, and also to work with the Hancock Historical Society to create a visual and educational installation on the outside of the fencing to educate locals and tourists about historic places in Hancock and our rich history. This will make the Dog Park an integral part of the community, creating a visually and culturally enriching experience for all who see it.
WHO SUPPORTS YOUR ORGANIZATION?
We are proud to have local support from the Hancock Area Chamber of Commerce, Hancock Partners, The Hancock Herald, NBT Bank, The Delaware Valley Garden Club, Delaware River Solar, The Campton's, Hancock Community Education Foundation, and many other respected businesses and non-profit organizations in the local community. This dog park is located in the scenic Western Catskills at the Gateway to the Delaware River in upstate New York, designed and built for the betterment of the entire community and their canine friends.
WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT?
The closest dog parks available to local residents are in Deposit NY or Binghamton NY approximately 1/2 hour to 1 hour away, and not all dogs can easily or safely travel by car and not all dog owners in the community can drive or have the ability to do so. HHDP wants this Dog Park to provide emotional support, physical exercise, and new business opportunities for the local community to be able to build jobs and infrastructure to support animal/pet needs throughout the town. HHDP hopes to partner with local civic organizations to provide access to jobs for Dog Walking, and to work with local Veterinary services to ensure better access to vaccinations, spade/neuter services, and dog registration in Hancock.
WHERE IS THE DOG PARK LOCATED?
The Town has generously agreed to allow HHDP a land use license for 661 W Main Street to install and operate the dog park behind the Hancock Town Hall. This means HHDP does not have to raise funds for the land itself, saving more than a year of lead time. This also means HHDP can save resources and time for the dog park itself to do it to a higher standard of quality, and add more features over time. This also means we can open the dog park more quickly and efficiently to the public, and make it more accommodating for those who may be handicapped, disabled, or require closer access to parking and shade.
*This amazing opportunity would not be possible without the VERY GENEROUS support of the Town of Hancock and their incredible leadership who has been so supportive of our small grassroots organization since the beginning.
HOW WILL THE PARK LOOK?
Hancock Hounds Dog Park, Inc. and its membership installed the park in THREE PHASES. This will allow us to make improvements to the designated Dog Park area with the professional advice and help of Delaware County, who have graciously volunteered a Landscape Architect to help HHDP resolve drainage concerns. They can also give HHDP clear and professional advice on how best to integrate the Dog Park into the natural landscape, while protecting the land's value, history and natural vegetation.
