Please Help Me Lay My Son To Rest

What Happened?
On the morning of October 2, 2019, my heart shattered as my son, John Henry Cole, Jr. was senselessly gunned down by an unknown assailant, mere blocks from his home. He was only 35 years old, less than a month away from his 36th birthday. This act was unexpected and our family is in a state of shock and disbelief. 


Who was John?

Affectionately known as John-John, my baby was a native Phoenician, who was a family man well-known in his community. His charismatic energy was infectious, touching the lives he encountered on a daily basis. As a youth football coach, John worked with the youth of South Phoenix, spreading his positive energy and kindness throughout. 

A beloved son, brother, father, uncle and friend, John deeply cared about the ones he loved and his community, often supporting and volunteering his time to various causes such as the Justice or Else Campaign March (The 20th Year Anniversary of The Million Man March), South Phoenix Baptist Church, back-to-school initiatives. The annual Christmas Toys for Tots drive was especially his favorite, never missing a drive to help kids experience the joy of the holiday. My son was a lover and made such a huge impact on not only my life, but the life of his children, his nephew, and our entire family. He was the heart of the family. 

What Will The Funds Cover?
Thanks to John’s ties to the community, our family is able to get about 50% of his funeral costs covered, but this is where we need your help! We need donations to help cover the costs of his casket (just like his heart, John was a big guy - 6’3), flowers and staff costs. Any amount will help us reach our goal of $5,000. We sincerely appreciate the ongoing and outpouring support during this difficult time. The love and support represents the lives that John touched during his short time here with us.
