U Lock and Maintenance Support

We are lucky to have two extra special badass women at CBC who are using their mechanical skills to help marginalized people! Mati and Emma understand that many people rely on or are in need of bikes for essential transportation. Some people rely on long commutes via Richmond public transportation, and a bike will help cut that time down. Or maybe they are homeless, and they rely on their bike to find safe shelter at night and donations during the day. 

These people don’t always have the resources to get a flat fixed or secure their bikes effectively. Mati and Emma have used donated and abandoned frames, built them up, and given them to teenagers in the Randolph area for transportation. In addition, they’ve provided free bike repairs at Marcus-David Peters Circle with priority given to Black and Indigenous People of Color. Their work is so inspiring!

The latest challenge has been securing or locking up bikes once people have access to them. A cable lock is cheap, but unfortunately so is its protection. They are just too easy to cut. Mati and Emma want to be able to provide U-Locks to the people who they are helping. So, help ‘em help!! 

We’ve set up this Go Fund Me to support Mati and Emma’s efforts. These funds will 100% go directly to the purchase of U-Locks and bike parts for people who benefit from the donated bike builds and maintenance. We will be accepting donations for the month of August. Thank you for your help and any little bit helps!
