In the early morning hours of May 6, 2015, there was a 2-alarm fire that took place in the Shaw area in the high-rise, 1330 on 7th street Northwest, that claimed the life of Lt. Kevin McRae. The fire was caused by some sort of electrical disfunction. Although my deepest prayers and sympathy goes out to Lt. Kevin McRae's family and friends, I am the family friend of one of the families that is now displaced due to this mishap. Whitney Cook, and her four children, Zyaire 10, Jamal 7, Maxie 4, and West, 10 months were occupants of the unit, above where the fire took place. These children, as well as their mother were able to escape the high-rise building without being harmed, but the fire and smoke has left these beautiful children's room completely destroyed.
I have watched Whitney, who is a single mother struggle to provide for her children, working as a daycare teacher, and beginning her own business, as a party planner, to give her children everything they deserve and more. Whitney is devastated, and has little to no extra funds to replace everything that the fire has destroyed, including, linen, clothes, furniture, and toys. Thankfully , Red Cross has put Whitney and the children in a hotel for three nights, but after that she is on her own.
Please open your hearts, and donate whatever you can to help, so that these children and their mother can feel comfortable when they are placed back into their apartment.
Thanks for your generosity in advance,
