Jeffery's Battle

Hello, friends and family. I have been struggling about starting a gofundme for awhile. My husband, Jeffery James, has been at UAMS since September 1st. He was working towards a liver transplant, when renal cell carcinoma was found on his left kidney. To be eligible for the transplant, a patient must be cancer free. So, we and the doctors determined the best course of action would be to remove the left kidney completely. Jeffery seemed to be in good enough shape to handle the procedure. Unfortunately, he did not do well after the surgery. He became septic and we were told that the one good kidney was in failure. The doctors did not give us much hope. He was sent to ICU and dialysis was started. It looked like Jeffery was doing better, much to the doctors suprise. We were transfered out of ICU to a regular room. Eventually, plans were in the works for us to come home, continue dialysis, and hope for a miracle. We were scheduled to come home on October 10th. On October 9th, Jeffery's ammonia level suddenly became so high that he went into a coma. We were sent back to ICU and he had to be placed on a ventilator. Again, we had another miracle. The doctors were amazed when Jeffery finally woke from the coma. The ventilator was finally removed and he bacame stable. We are now back in a regular room. The doctors think we will be going home in the coming weeks. However, we need all the help we can get. Jeffery will need to go to dialysis three times a week, a special diet, medical equipment, improvements to our home to make it safe for him, multiple blood transfusion, etc. Our goal is to keep Jeffery stable for 1 year. At that time, the doctors say we can reapply for a double transplant (liver and kidney at the same time). I am asking for help for my family. We have 4 teenage boys who have been wonderful through all this. I know most people struggle in life financially. If it were not for our children, I would not ask for help. I am trying to keep their life as stable as possible as we go through this hard time. Thank you in advance to anyone that can help. Please understand that it is a struggle for me to ask for help. We have had so much love shown to us during this hard time already. Please continue to keep us in your thoughts as we travel down this long road.
