Hey Everybody!
My name is Olivia Nickerson and my family was one of the ones in Chester, VT that was severely impacted by the flooding. Luckily the living portion of the house was unharmed and my family can remain at home, for now. However, the water destroyed the structural frame of the garage, and along with that went hundreds of tools that belonged to my stepfather. As a Tradesman he needed those tools for working, along with sentimental tools that were given to him by his father, who is predeceased. My family has flood insurance but they were told that flood insurance will only cover their immediate dwelling being the home including the basement, but only what is attached to the floor (furnace & water heater). There is so much that was lost, being a finished basement, a freezer full of meat for the winter, etc. The devastation is just too much to list. They had ServePro come and give an estimate for the mold that is quickly taking over in the basement and was quoted 5,000 dollars up front, and then to be put on a waiting list. Again, flood insurance does not cover the cleanup, all of which is out of pocket.
We are extremely thankful that my family was able to remain in the home during the flooding and stayed safe. My stepfather was somehow able to make it across the raging river in our front yard to try and find a way to evacuate my mother and little sister, but it was determined to be too dangerous.
We are not people to ask for handouts, but after seeing all of the devastation and hearing how unhelpful the insurance companies have been I took it upon myself to start this fundraiser in the hope of collecting some means of financial assistance.
We have seen firsthand how detrimental this flooding has been, and are very fortunate that we can at least remain in our home, unlike many others in our community that completely lost everything.
If you can help, we would appreciate any and all help. If you can’t donate money that is perfectly understandable, just keep up in your thoughts! Also, if anyone has a dumpster we can borrow that would be HUGE, the dumpster companies want $900-1000+ for a large dumpster, plus an additional $190/ton. Everything is saturated with mud, which as you can imagine weighs ALOT...
All fundraising efforts will be used by my family, Geraldine Green & Donald Hancock to pay for cleaning services in the basement to remove mold, along with building supplies to salvage the structural integrity of the garage and replace some tools that were lost.
