Whether you knew him as FX, Fran, or Mr. Mahoney, if you were fortunate enough to know him, you were very fortunate indeed.
Francis X Mahoney, Jr passed away on May 7, 2015. He was a public school teacher for over 17 years at Elm Park Community School in Worcester. His dedication and committment to all children was seen in all parts of his life, especially in his love of his nieces and nephews, who were blessed to have "Uncle Rex" by their sides.
As a man of faith, and someone who was always willing to help others, he was proud of his mission work in Mexico and Jamaica. His year of service in Jamaica added to the quality of life and education for all he served. With a love of history he also spent many years working at Higgins Armory. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, going to the ocean, and working out at the Worcester Athletic Club. He was a lifelong, and very active member of Immaculate Conception Church, and was a CCD teacher.
Since hearing of his passing, many who knew him have asked what they can do. We have set up a campaign to carry on his legacy of helping others. Funds raised will provide much needed technology for the students of Elm Park Community School, and for the Veterans Inc, Shelter on Grove Street in Worcester. As an educator, and son and grandson of Veterans, these causes had a special place in his overflowing heart.
