A Friend in Need

Hello, my name is Ellen Pearcy and I live in Central Texas, near Austin. I have been helping a “sister” in need, but have reached the pinnacle of what I can do. So, I am looking to raise money for a dear friend who is in danger of losing everything right now.

Many of you know her. I have known Sheree Starkey for almost 50 years, and know her to be a hardworking, self-reliant and very independent woman who is facing huge challenges right now. We met in school and hit it off instantly. Her sharp wit was very useful in high school, but now can keep people at a distance. Who can blame her? I too have constant pain from old injuries and can get very grumpy because of that.

Her trials and tribulation really began with a work injury 3 years ago that resulted in a broken wrist and spinal fracture that has left her unable to work. She has been dealing with non-stop pain ever since and despite various treatments, including vertebroplasty, nothing has really helped. In fact, the vertebroplasty actually made it feel worse. She can’t stand or sit for very long, and the pain definitely interferes with sleep. As you can imagine (or have experienced yourself), this constant pain can and has lead to emotional suffering as well. If you have this kind of chronic issue, I am sure you ask ”Why me?” all the time, as well.

In addition to the physical and emotional pain, she has been fighting the worker’s comp bureaucracy and trying to manage as best as possible until her case is resolved. If you have never dealt with a bureaucracy meant to prevent people from getting the help they need, then you need to try the Texas’ Workers Comp system. I have to give Sheree credit, she has never given up, and has repeatedly applied despite her plea being rejected over and over.

At this point, she is tired, overwhelmed and really unable to make ends meet. Bills are falling behind, especially rent and food. Without your help, I fear she might be in real danger of losing her car, her apartment and everything.

Please help if you can. Like I said, I have known Sheree Starkey for decades and know her to be worthy of your help.
