Recovery after house fire
Donation protected
Hello,
We’re currently trying to raise money for my elderly mother who has been left to rebuild after a house fire on 7/9/24 at Bongaree left her homeless. She is a mother of five kids and a grandmother to 12 grandbabies who all adore her. She bought herself this lovely little house on Bribie after a 35+ yr marriage fell apart. We all thought that this was her time. Her time to build the life that she has always deserved.
It was only a few months ago that my mum had an accident, breaking her wrist in multiple places and was finally on the mend.
The fire started from a toaster and within minutes took over the entirety of her house. She stood by helplessly watching her entire life fall to the ground. My youngest brother was also in the house at the time of the fire. His quick reflexes and quick thinking possibly saved their lives. He too has become homeless and lost all his belongings. Both have gotten out with nothing but the clothes on their backs (literally).
As you can imagine, the events of Saturday night have taken a toll on all involved, especially my mother, who was already battling with depression, now having to deal with losing everything she’s worked hard to get in the blink of an eye.
Due to the current cost of living and only having the age pension as an income, this poor woman had to let her insurance lapse, meaning she now has to cover the entire cost of rebuilding her home financially, emotionally and mentally all on her own.
Since the fire took away her home, she has had to turn to the few family and friends she has for support. Together we will get her back home and, on her feet again, but we can’t do it without the help and support of this wonderful community!
Thankyou
