Gizmo's Medical Expenses

Donation protected
My name is Karuna and I'm fundraising to cover the cost of medical expenses for my cat, Gizmo. She passed away on 6/11/23 after being hospitalized for 2 nights, and now I'm left with a devastating loss and almost $3000 of debt.

I noticed she hadn't been eating well for a few days, was lethargic, and had lost a lot of weight. I took her to the vet on June 8th. They did an exam and ran blood tests. She didn't have a fever or any signs of infection. They told me she was slightly anemic (1% below what she should be) and had slightly elevated liver levels. But nothing was conclusive and they didn't know what was wrong with her.

The vet wouldn't be able to do an ultrasound until the following Tuesday, and they were recommending hospitalization. I was trying to avoid that, so they gave her a Cerenia Injection (anti-nausea), and sent me home with fluids and an appetite stimulant. She did eat a tiny bit that night and the next day, but was still very lethargic. I decided to bring her to the hospital that Friday night.

All her vitals were stable, but they ran additional blood tests and found her anemia had worsened and her liver levels were still high. The doctor was concerned it was liver disease, so would need to continue to monitor her. They were giving her fluids and had her hooked up to a feeding tube. They continued to offer her food, but she pretty consistently was refusing to eat.

The hospital also wasn't able to run a full ultrasound until that Monday. They did do an ultrasound probe, and saw something that they were worried could be a tumor. On Sunday I was informed she had fluid in her abdomen, which they sampled and was fecal matter. They believed the suspected tumor had caused her intestines to burst. Gizmo would have had to go into surgery, which the doctor said didn't have a high chance of survival. And if she did survive, she'd still have to undergo chemo if they did indeed find the mass to be a tumor. The doctor felt it was a good decision to euthanize. She seemed so unhappy and I didn't want her to be in pain, so I had to let her go.

All this happened after losing my other cat, Charlie, less than 3 months ago to chronic kidney failure & anemia. I've lost my family. I live alone, and Charlie & Gizmo were my companions and my loves. Any help that can be provided is greatly appreciated to lessen the financial stress on top of the complete heartbreak and devastation I'm experiencing. Thank you
