Our son, 19-year-old Hunter Bright, was critically injured in a golf cart accident on March 31, 2024, Easter Sunday. Hunter suffered multiple skull fractures and a traumatic brain injury that has caused him to experience cognitive delays which has affected his balance, speech and short-term memory.
Unfortunately, Hunter’s road to healing is going to not only be long, but the medical expenses to help him in his recovery are going to be significant. The severity of Hunter’s injuries on the scene of the accident — and the amount of blood loss he experienced — ultimately led to him being airlifted to Huntsville Hospital. We were finally able to bring him to UAB Hospital on April 5, and he is now receiving care at Spain Rehabilitation Center.
Hunter is such a bright, outgoing person. He loves to fish. He’s a member of the University of Montevallo Fishing Team. Doctors have told us that his youth and strength are going to be a benefit to him as he recovers. Still, we have been told to expect a 12-18 month journey of rehabilitation to get him fully back to where he needs to be. We know it’s going to be hard for him initially when he tries to fish again, an activity that is his passion. But we know Hunter will pour everything he has into his recovery when his brain heals, and all of us — his dad Bill, his mom Cindy, and his sisters Reagan and Mady — have faith that God will guide him and help heal him through this difficult journey.
Right now, it is hard to see our son, a very social kid who really enjoys being around his friends and family, struggle to stay awake and in a great deal of pain in those moments when he is alert. He hit his head really hard on the pavement, had to be intubated and had seizures before he was able to get to the hospital.
Without the quick thinking and reaction of his friends to call 9-1-1 and the first responders who arrived so quickly and administered such great care at the scene and during transport, we know Hunter would not be with us today. We are so thankful God put each and every one of these people in Hunter’s life. The care they provided ultimately saved his life.
If you have the ability to help provide any measure of financial assistance for us to put towards Hunter’s medical expenses, we would be forever grateful. And, of course, we welcome and are grateful for any prayers for his full recovery. We’ve already had so many people praying for him from all over this country, and we know our boy is loved immensely. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
