Debbie McArthur Medical Fund

I am setting up this fund to help a family that I have had the privelage of being close to for over 25 years.  DeVan McArthur has been both my business partner and very close personal friend since the beginning of us starting our company Retail Technologies Corporation.  DeVan's wife, Debbie McArthur has been both a close friend to my entire family, as well as a strong supporter of our company over the years.  We have laughed together, cried together and enjoyed the American way of life just as anyone would hope for.  Several years ago that all changed when Debbie was diagnosed with Progressive SuperNuclear Palsy.  This disease is related to Parkinson's Disease and ALS (Loug Gehrig's Disease), though much rarer.  The result is the steady deterioration of the brain stem until it cannot control basic body functions and it is terminal.  Ever the optimist, DeVan has continued to spend significant money on "research treatment" outside the boundaries of insurance plan coverage, with the latest treatment being "stem cell" injections to help replace the brain cells being destroyed by this hideous disease ($80k).  The results have not appeared to slow down the progress of the disease, as Debbie is now wheel chair bound and struggling with a wide variety of the typical symptoms of advanced Progressive Supranuclear Palsy.  DeVan has also hired is sister Starley, who is a professional in the medical field, to help with the daily tasks of "caretaker" for Debbie.  As an EVP of RTC, DeVan certainly makes good money; however, even a decent salaried job cannot keep up with the medical costs associated with a rare disease like Debbie's.  DeVan has quickly gone through all his discretionary funds and borrowed all he can from his retirement plan and max'd out all his credit cards trying to save the life of his wife of over 40 years.  DeVan and Debbie were high school sweethearts.  First and last loves!!  Both are over 60 now and as we can all imagine, this is not how the "golden years" of the American Dream is suppose to end.  I know this story can be told by many folks around the World.....  They are just not in "my" World and DeVan and Debbie are.  For those of you that know DeVan, you know that he would give anything to anyone anytime!!  He is one the most "giving" people I know.  If you know the McArthurs, its time to give back and help any way you can.  In God's name, I ask this of all that know DeVan and Debbie McArthur.
