Justice for Kathy
Donation protected
On the night of July 24th, 1975, my daughter Kathy was brutally attacked, beaten, ravaged and left to die in the woods behind the K-Mart in Aspen Hill, Maryland . She was found the following morning and rushed to the hospital where she passed away from her injuries 12 days later. Kathy was only 15 years old, a sweet, innocent child, and in an instant, her life was snuffed out. The police interviewed numerous people but sadly, were unable to come up with any evidence to arrest anyone for the crime. The cold case department of the Montgomery County, Maryland police department has re-visited the investigation a number of times since Kathy's death, almost 42 years ago. Local and national television stations in the DC area have featured the case on their prime time news programs throughout this period. About 8 years ago, a private investigator who was a classmate of Kathy's asked if he could work the case and along with his associates, have been relentless in conducting probably 100 interviews, while refusing to take any money for their efforts . Unfortunately, we still have no answers as to who killed Kathy.
We have raised $5,000 as a reward for information that would bring Kathy's attacker(s) to justice. Someone knows something but is refusing to talk. Raising the reward to $50,000 could be enough incentive for someone to come forward with evidence that could solve the case. I will be 84 years old this year and my years on this earth are numbered. I dread the feeling that I may go to my grave never knowing who killed my daughter. Her name comes up in conversations every day. My heart breaks knowing how terrible her death must have been. Could I have done anything different that evening? I miss her so much. I get so angry knowing that I never had the opportunity to see her graduate from high school, go to college, marry, have children and be a joy to her sister, my husband and me.
Her canopy bed remains in her bedroom filled with stuffed animals. Kathy loved all God's creatures. She was kind to her schoolmates and stood up for those that were bullied or shunned. Kids can be cruel but Kathy was born with a kind heart and a gentle soul.
Whoever did this to Kathy is walking the streets while my daughter lies in a grave in a cemetery in Virginia. Where is the justice for Kathy? Almost 42 years have passed with different police officers being assigned to the case. The officers are kind and compassionate, but unable to come up with any answers. It seems like they have given up. Not so Kathy's friends who continue to search for answers. Their dedication gives me hope that some day, we will know.
You can find more information about the case by going to Kathy's website at kathybeatty.com. 100% of any funds raised will go towards the reward for information leading to the solving of the case. If the case is solved without the need for using all or any of the reward monies raised, the funds will be donated to St Jude's Hospital for Children in Memphis, TN in Kathy's name.
Thank you for any contribution you might consider. Even if you can not afford to help, thank you for reading Kathy's story. Join us in praying for Kathy and for answers.
I love you all,
Pat Haberman
