Challenger baseball jamboree
Donation protected
I am trying to raise money to take my 7 year old special needs son to the 2015 National Challenger Baseball Jamboree. It is being hosted by the Toronto Blue Jays. We were only told about this opportunity today- May 11th and the Jamboree is on June 6th in Toronto.
Challenger Baseball allows children with cognitive or physical disabilities the opportunity to enjoy all the benefits of playing baseball, in a environment that caters to their very special needs.
The amount that I am trying to raise would cover flights, hotel and tickets to the Blue Jays game for my son, myself and 3 family members. Travelling with a special needs child can be difficult and I am trying to raise enough so that family members can travel with us to assist with care.
Any money that is raised over the amount will be donated to our local Challenger Baseball league.
I am a single mom, I work full time and my son and I live at home with my parents and younger brother. My family has given up a lot to help support me and my son. We are a very close knit family. I am not the type of person to ask for help, but I really think this would be such an incredible experience for my son.
My son is 7, his name is Gavin and he has Down Syndrome. He loves watching the Blue Jays play, playing ball with his uncle and now playing with his Challenger baseball team- the Royals. He pays so close attention to the games on tv that he mimicks the moves that the players make.
In his 7 years, he has faced quite a few health problems including major surgery on his stomach at only 8 days old. Being able to watch him participate in something like this would be amazing for myself and the rest of the family.
