Charity's Fight to Kick Breast Cancers Butt

Let’s get to the punch line because well, there is no easy way to say this. Charity Aguiar Mattson has been diagnosed with Stage 2 Invasive Ductal Carcinoma Breast Cancer. As most would expect this was devastating news. We would like to share a bit about our very dear friend to help others understand the amazing human she is. We hope that this brings her the support both emotionally and financially that she will need on this journey.
Charity grew up in Evanston, Wyoming and loved helping out at her grandparents ranch in Randolph, Utah. She has always been very active, playing basketball, volleyball, and soccer for Evanston High School and loved being a part of the community and town. After graduation, Charity stayed in Evanston and worked at Evanston Regional Hospital for almost two years before deciding to move to Great Falls, Montana. She moved to further her education.
Charity attended Montana Academy of Schools for Cosmetology and graduated in May of 2016 at seven months pregnant. While going to school, Charity worked at True Brew. Anyone who knows Charity knows her love for coffee, espressos and lattes. Charity had a lot of regulars there that loved how she made their drinks. Once her daughter was born, Charity became the most loving and supportive stay-at-home mom. Her daughter Aubree has brought so much love and joy to Charity’s life. After a year of staying home, Charity went back to work at Montana Federal Credit Union. Most of the Great Falls community may recognize her friendly face from being your teller or barista at True Brew. You may have even seen her at the River during the summers in Great Falls on the boat, and swimming. Some of her favorite things to do.
After going through a challenging divorce, Charity decided to move to Utah to get a fresh start for her daughter, Aubree and herself. About six months after moving, Charity found a lump in her right breast. At first, she thought it was hormones from her menstrual cycle. Because of her age, she was not sure if this was a concern and asked her best friend for advice. They decided it was best to see a doctor where many more lumps were found and her journey began.
As everyone knows, insurance is often very challenging and Charity’s insurance wasn’t the best at being quick. It took a month to get scheduled for a Mammogram and ultrasound. But, two weeks after the first ultrasound and mammogram, Charity received the news that no one wants to receive. It was cancer.
Thankfully, she is currently in Utah and supported by one of the best cancer treatment hospitals in the country, Huntsman Cancer Institute. However, Charity’s insurance does not cover much and what it does, her deductible is $8,000. As part of her plan, she will need a double mastectomy that is currently scheduled for June 16, 2023. She will be out of work for months, recovering. After surgery, we will find out if she has to do chemotherapy, and/or radiation therapy and if the cancer has spread to her lymph nodes. This will be the first surgery of many that she will need to have.
Charity is a single mom raising her daughter. She needs our help, the help of these communities she has grown in and loved. Please come together and help donate or share this if you are unable to donate.
We want Charity to know the love that we have for her, and that she has an army behind her. Any donations will be used to support Charity in her medical bills, recovery and her daughter while she is unable to work. This will allow her to focus on her treatments, recovery and being the best mother she can be.
Thank you for your love and support!
