Hello my name is Lexi, Randees sister, my brother in law Charlie had back surgery in September that took him out of work. He’s been able to work some from home since then but hasn’t been able to return because his back continued to get worse after the surgery. Some days he’s been OK enough to go to the grocery store or be up and about with limitations, other days he’s barely been able to get from his couch to the bathroom. The more time that passed the less he was able to do. They’ve been trying to come up with answers and he got a referral for a second opinion at Lahey. Lahey wanted a CAT scan to be done because he’s had three MRIs all showing right sided sciatic nerve impingement with no real improvement even after his surgery. Just about Christmas, he started feeling poorly and incredibly tired. They didn’t want him to miss the CAT scan that they had been waiting for over a month for, but Randee called his Dr and asked them to do some labs- they had already tested him for Covid. He started feeling a new pain in his right abdomen. The next 24 hours just went down hill, he had a fever that wouldn’t go away, and just kept feeling worse. The lab results were bad, his hemoglobin and hematocrit very low and his white blood cell count very high. He was directly admitted from the ER. Looks like his back pain all along was from the mass in his intestines compressing his sciatic nerve against his herniated disk from his abdominal side- which is why his surgery didn’t help.

He’s headed for surgery today, and they don’t have an easy road coming their way.

Randee is a nurse and needs to be with him through this, he needs her by his side and not at work, the kids need her while they navigate this together.

Obviously, this is hard enough as it is with one of them out of work. They are still waiting on more test results before sharing anymore but any and all help will be amazing! Being able to help put aside the financial burden as well as meals while they get through this together will be huge please also see the meal train I have going

Randee and Charlie will celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary this year. They have 4 amazing kids. This isn’t how they should be starting 2023.

My sister and brother in law are always doing for everyone- helping in some way, buying someone else’s kidsChristmas presents, coaching other peoples kids, offering a hand somewhere with something. Randee needs to be able to focus on being Charlie’s support, his wife and his nurse through this unwanted journey they are about to take on.

She had to take an FMLA along with Charlie to take care of him, and won’t be able to work being their source of income right now. If you know them at all, you know how much he needs her to get though this. She’s the calm to his storm, and always has been. She also needs to be able to be there to advocate for him right now. Let’s get them through this.
