Ubuntu Life Foundation: Water & Food Program

My name is Dr. Sandy Garica M.D & I am a pediatric emergency room doctor in Texas. I have been a part of Ubuntu Life Foundation as a Tribe Member & Board member for the past 10 years.
As I contemplate this challenging Covid year, I embrace the gifts I’ve learned-simple necessities can not be taken for granted: clean water and food, community, and connecting on a deeper level. As a single Mom, I couldn’t imagine being without these things. We all have a choice, moment to moment to rise above, to be part of the solution, and to give grace to this moment. I’ve chosen to do something special on my birthday, the winter solstice, and with the Christmas Star shining bright in the night sky on December 21, invite you to join me too. We are all interconnected. Join me and my sweet daughter, Leela, in making a difference, in helping gift clean water and food to these families in need. Let’s be that shining star together.
The Ubuntu Life Foundation's mission is to provide access to essential services and promote social inclusion for children with special educational and physical needs throughout Kenya. As COVID_19 forced the school to shut down, many families had zero access to clean water and reliable food for their children. Clean water and food are essential to the care & health of the children that we see. Without those two vital sources, the medications that are needed will be ineffective or dangerous without proper nutrition.
Since the pandemic struck, the Foundation has been providing 34 families consisting of over 180 Household members with 18.5 Liters of clean bottled Ubuntu water every week since April this year. Each bottle of water is costing us 200 KSH (2 Dollars) which in a month totals to 28,000 Ksh (280 Dollars). Additionally 18 families have been receiving dry food ration, cooking oil, and soap all worth 10 Dollars (1500 Ksh) twice a month for the last 8 months. In a month, the total cost needed to sustain the program would be 38,000 Ksh (380 Dollars)
The total cost of the program per month is USD $1,000 which the Foundation directly pays for. This cost includes transportation and staff to manage & distribute to each family. These are not the only families in need during these trying times. Our goal is to raise money to ensure we can extend this program to another 34 families.
I am looking for our community to match my donation and raise a total of USD $12,000 ( or more! The more we can raise, even more families will be served) which will cover the cost of the program for 104 families for an entire year.
Every USD $30 donated, will provide food & water to 1 household for a month
Every USD $120 donated, will provide 4 households with food & water for a month
Every USD $500 donated, will provide 16 household food & water for a whole month
Every USD $1,000 donated, will cover the cost of the program for 1 month.
The goal is to raise USD $12,000 to cover the cost of the program for 1 year.
Big Love,
Dr. Sandy Garcia M.D
