Sister Thea Bowman School Repairs
Donation protected
Sister Thea Bowman Catholic School is the last Catholic school serving the East St. Louis area, covering kindergarten through 8th grade. Over the weekend, vandals struck, breaking over 40 windows, trashing the classrooms, and causing thousands of dollars in damages. Insurance will help cover the repairs, but there's a $5000 dollar deductible the school has to come up with first.
Budgets are tight and covering this will require money that should be spent educating their students. Any help to come up with the deductible will be extremely helpful.
STBCS caters to a predominately underprivileged area with over 90% of their students coming from homes below the poverty level. The school makes a profound difference in the student's lives. 100% of their graduates have gone on to high school and 95% of those have gone on to enroll in college.
In an area of the country where violence is rampant, STBCS puts a focus on peacemaking. The children learn that their actions have consequences and how to have a positive impact on the world around them.
STBCS takes a holistic approach. Beyond the traditional curriculum, the students are also taught through art and music, learning visual arts, the violin, and dance.
