Refugee help fund
Donation protected
My name is Rawan, I'm from St. Catharines, Ontario. I am not usually one to start a fundraising campaign and ask others for donations. However, this hits too close to my heart.
My aunt Faten, her husband and two kids currently live in Syria. I cannot even begin to explain the struggles they have gone through over the years to stay alive and keep their kids safe. My cousins Fadi and Rami, aged 17 & 15, haven't had the type of childhood you would expect. They were deprived from the many things most kids have. They were surrounded by war, loss, financial distress and many other awful things... things you would not want your own family.. or any one for that matter to go through.
Not only were they stripped and deprived of many things like their house, education was also taken away from them. The past few years have been the worst in Syria, the full-blown civil war has killed over 220,000 people, half of whom are believed to be civilians. Bombings are destroying crowded cities and horrific human rights violations are widespread. Basic necessities like food and medical care are sparse. The U.N. estimates that 7.6 million people are internally displaced. When you also consider refugees, more than half of the country’s pre-war population of 23 million is in need of urgent humanitarian assistance, whether they still remain in the country or have escaped across the borders.
My family and myself have been frequently sending food, clothes and money to my aunt and her family to try and help as much as we can. Although it has helped, it is still not enough.
Since the crisis is getting worse, my aunt is planning an escape route for my two young cousins... because she is barely able to afford to send the two of them... her and her husband will be staying back until they can gather enough funds to leave (if they ever can) ...
I am terrified for my cousins, it is not an easy journey for two young boys to go on without their parents. I do understand there are millions of Syrians in need, but this is my blood. I can no longer stand back and see them suffer like this.
My goal is to send them enough funds to get ALL four of them out of Syria and into safety... somewhere they can start a new life. They need to act quick... if my cousin (Fadi, aged 17) stays there until next year, he will be forced into the army.
EVERY penny counts. Please, if you cannot donate..share this with your friends/family.
I will keep each and every one of you updated on their status.. if I can get my family into a safe place.. I will forever be grateful for each and every one of you who helped make this possible.
From the bottom of my heart.. Thank you.
